Component Leadership Award
This award
recognizes and honors a Chapter, SIG or College elected officer who has
effectively guided a component’s operation that resulted in significant
advances or achievements, furthering Project Management Institute’s envisioned
goal that "Worldwide, organizations will embrace, value and utilize
project management and attribute their success to it." The award was based on the nominee’s significant
achievements in the component’s growth, innovative programs, and efforts that
are visible beyond the area of operation while consistently meeting the
Institute's requirements.

We are
proud to announce that the recipient for the Component Leadership SIG was our
very own Chair Margareth Carneiro, PMP.
Margareth’s leadership and excellence
in her work earned her the recognition of ‘One
of the 25 influential Woman in Project Management’ in the world. She is highly respected and has a very
good relationship with all the Brazilian component leaders and many others
worldwide. Margareth is a creative person and imprints dynamism to the
Component which she leads. Under her
leadership since 2005, our SIG has worked to improve the practice of project
management in government at all levels. Congratulations Margareth!
MARGARETH CARNEIRO, PMP OF THE PMI GOVERNMENT
SPECIFIC
INTEREST GROUP HONORED WITH 2007 PMI AWARD
ATLANTA, GEORGIA,
USA – Project Management Institute (PMI®),
the world’s leading membership association for the project
management
profession, has awarded Margareth Carneiro, PMP of Brasilia, DF, Brazil,
with
the PMI Component Leadership Award. Component Leadership Awards
recognize PMI
members who have made significant contributions to their communities,
the
project management profession and PMI.
A PMI
component is a chartered subsidiary of the PMI organization composed of
PMI
members. PMI Components include:
- 260 chapters (geographically based community)
- specific interest group (SIG) (virtual
interest-area community) or
- college (community centered around a
knowledge area in A Guide to the Project Management Body of
Knowledge (PMBOK®
Guide).
Carneiro,
a certified Project Management Professional (PMP®),
chairs the PMI
Government SIG. Her work as chair of the Government SIG since 2005 has
set the direction
for the SIG’s presence in the government community and raised
the direction of
the project management profession and PMI. She has been recognized by
PMI as
one of the 25 influential women in project management. When she earned
the PMP
certification in 1999, she was one of the first people in Brazil
to receive the PMP
certification.
Carneiro
is the executive director of her own consultancy, PMA Project
Management. As a
volunteer, she works on social and government projects and has helped
the Brazilian
government plan the Zero Hunger Program that fights the causes of
poverty and
hunger in Brazil.
PMI

Ceremony held in conjunction with the PMI Global
Congress—North America in Atlanta.

Government SIG Chair-Elect Sivasailam Sankara, PMP, accepted the award
on
behalf of government SIG members.
